This course is for those students continuing on an instrument started in an earlier grade. This class meets Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternate Fridays for the entire year. The curriculum includes note and rhythm reading, proper methods of tone production, and concert performance techniques. Required performances include a winter concert, a spring concert and local and regional solo and ensemble festivals. Group lessons are a required part of the curriculum and will be given weekly throughout the year. Lessons will be scheduled during regular classes but times will be rotated to minimize the extent that any class is missed. All band members are required to attend lessons and practice on a regular basis outside of class time. Band students will also have a one-trimester every day study hall. Band students who are uncertain of fingerings or are not able sight readers are strongly encouraged to take summer lessons. Band members are required to purchase a band method book as required by the instructor. All band members must supply their own instrument, oil, reeds, etc. Percussionists will need to have a bell set and their own mallets/sticks for class. All band students using school-owned instruments will be assessed a $60.00 user fee. This fee is payable at $20.00 per trimester. In addition, all percussionists will be assessed a $60.00 user fee to help offset the costs of maintenance and repair of percussion equipment.
