Middle School Ensembles
The Park View bands include two curricular concert bands, which meet during the school day, an extra-curricular jazz band, and a beginning band.  The 7th grade band & beginning
band is led by
Mr. Matt Koscinski.  The 8th grade band & jazz band is led by Mr. Josh Werner.

We also have jazz band which meets after school from November to April.

7th Grade Band
Year Long Course
This course is for those students continuing on an instrument started in an earlier grade.
This class meets Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternate Fridays for the entire year. The curriculum
includes note and rhythm reading, proper methods of tone production, and concert performance techniques. Required performances include a
winter concert, a spring concert and local and regional solo and ensemble festivals.

Group lessons are a required part of the curriculum and will be given weekly throughout the year. Lessons will be scheduled during regular
classes but times will be rotated to minimize the extent that any class is missed. All band members are required to attend lessons and practice
on a regular basis outside of class time. Band students will also have a one-trimester every day study hall. Band students who are uncertain of
fingerings or are not able sight readers are strongly encouraged to take summer lessons.

Band members are required to purchase a band method book as required by the instructor.  All band members must supply their own
instrument, oil, reeds, etc. Percussionists will need to have a bell set and their own mallets/sticks for class. All band students using
school-owned instruments will be assessed a $60.00 user fee. This fee is payable at $20.00 per trimester. In addition, all percussionists will be
assessed a $60.00 user fee to help offset the costs of maintenance and repair of percussion equipment.
8th Grade Band
Year Long Course
Band 8 is a continuation of 7th grade band. This class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and alternate Fridays for the entire year. The curriculum
uses the same framework as 7th grade band but on a more advanced level. Required performances include a winter concert, local and regional
solo/ensemble, and a spring concert.

Group lessons will be scheduled weekly. Lessons will be scheduled during regular classes but times will be rotated to minimize the extent that
any class is missed. All band members are expected to attend lessons and to practice regularly outside of class.

Students will also learn basic music theory and will have some rhythm assignments that will improve their overall sight reading ability and
overall knowledge of music. Band members are required to purchase a band method book as required by the instructor.  Percussionists are
required to have a bell set and mallets. The eighth grade band traditionally takes a day long trip in spring.

All band students using school-owned instruments will be assessed a $60.00 user fee. In addition, all percussionists will be assessed a $60.00 user fee to help
Jazz Band
Extra-curricular course
Jazz Band begins the year typically in November with auditions for the rhythm section.  All other members, wind players such as Saxophones,
Trombones & Trumpets, are all welcome to join with NO audition required.  Audition music for the rhythm section is released in late October.  
Full band rehearsals begin after the December concerts.

There are typically 4-6 performances required by the jazz band.  This includes but not limited to, Solo & Ensemble, Ice Cream Social, Jazz Concert
in April/May, Spring Concert, and more if needed.

There is no fee to be in jazz band, however we are charged a shirt fee to purchase our performance t-shirt or polo shirt.
